Quick Start Guide to Negative Behavior & Consequences

A checklist for School Principals, APs, or MTSS Coordinators to set up and roll out behavior management in Minga.

Follow these four stages to kickstart behavior management with Minga, create consistency across classrooms, and automate the consequences and follow-through.

Stage 1

Discover

Watch the behavior management video series and share with your team to define your primary goal and get counselors on the same page.

TIP:

Document your process. Record your current behavior policies and how consequences should escalate — this becomes your configuration blueprint.

Identify your escalation path. Define each consequence type and the threshold at which a referral escalates.

Stage 2

Build

➜

Build your Behaviors. Map your school's discipline expectations and referral types into Minga.

Build your Consequences and configure messages to automatically notify families.

➜

Set Up Automations. Trigger consequences based on your policy thresholds.

Choose Your Detention Management Method. Minga offers open or scheduled detentions; select the option that best fits your school and students.

Stage 3

Launch

➜

Host a meeting with teachers and show them how to assign guidance in My Class, this is their home base in Minga. Here is a resource you can share!

Give visibility to students. Set clear expectations, students should know the behavior policy; post it in hallways and pin it to the Minga Homefeed.

➜

Set a date for launch. If you've connected your SIS with Minga, reviewed the settings in the app, and let staff and families know, then you're ready to launch!

TIP:

Transparency is key. The new system should feel like a support to students and staff — not a "gotcha." Make expectations visible before you start enforcing consequences.

Stage 4

Refine

Review behavior trends. Use the Behavior Report to identify common incidents, recurring students, and patterns by time, location, or staff member.

Close the loop on consequences . Ensure that assigned consequences (e.g., detentions) are being completed, not just assigned.

Review staff adoption. Check which teachers are submitting referrals and provide coaching or resources to those who aren't.

TIP:

Adjust your rules. Refine thresholds, escalation timing, or communication cadence based on feedback and data — not guesses.
